YANGON- A ceremony to celebrate the 110th Anniversary of Myanmar Central Post Office Building was held in front of the building in Yangon yesterday.
Likewise, sale of special stamps marked the 110th Anniversary of Yangon General Post Office.
Union Minister for Transport and Communication Thant Zin Maung attended the event and made an opening speech.
The building was built in 1908 in Yangon by a rice-trading firm Bulloch Brothers & Co and it was relocated to the current location after the earthquake in 1930.
Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications had introduced its Postal Service in Sittwe Township, Rakhine State, in 1827.
Later, Bago General Post Office was opened in 1852 and Yangon General Post Office in 1854 respectively.
Myanma Postal Service was formed starting on April 1st of 2015 and totaling 1,387 post offices are carrying out the mail services until to the rural areas.
200 Kyats Postage stamps specially designed for the 110th Anniversary simultaneously had been sold at the entire post offices on September 20th.
A postage stamp exhibition was held at Myanmar Central Post Office in Yangon on September 23rd as a gesture of 110th Anniversary of Myanmar Central Post Office Building.
