Vessels running in Chindwin River were warned of thick fog, sources said.

“Most vessels run early in the morning and they always faced thick fog in Chindwin River. The vessels used lights and GPS to navigate. Sometimes a helper stood at the bow to look out. If we heard a sound of ship engine, we honked them and reduced speed. We looked out for a vessel nearby using navigation software and devices,” said a helmsman.

According to the second ten-day weather forecast made by the DMH, foggy days will be expected about 6 to 8 days in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing and Mandalay regions, Kachin, Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayah and Mon states and about 3 to 5 days in lower Sagaing, Magway, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions.

“There are many fumes in the river in the early morning and the weather is cold. The decks of the vessels are wet like raining. We saw sunlight around 9 am every morning. Passengers need to be careful,” said a traveller.
